Why not start today?
I have never aspired to be a writer. However, I believe that becoming a good storyteller would be beneficial for conveying build projects. In Atomic Habits, James Clear talks about giving yourself daily votes through actions for who you want to be. In Someday is Today, Matthew Dicks also talks about how he made a daily habit of posting to his blog, and it made him a better writer. Taking cues from both of them, I’m starting this daily blog today.
It would never come if I waited for a perfect time to improve my writing. Part of being a Maker is accepting imperfections and always working toward improvement. Late last night, I read the chapter in Somday is Today about Matthew’s daily blog. This post is action, or as James Clear calls it, a vote toward who I want to be: a better storyteller.
I have no misconceptions that this will allow me to evolve into a great American author. Still, this daily writing habit will help me better convey stories around projects over time. A multitude of ideas go into every single project. Inspiration can come from many places, although I mainly pull inspiration from Star Wars, Disney, and YouTube. In this daily blog, we’ll talk about those inspirations, books, what I’m watching on TV and YouTube, current maker obsessions, and many other things. No topic is off-limits.
The length of posts will likely vary from day to day. Some posts, like book reviews, will be longer, while other life updates will be shorter. My commitment to you is that I will write a post daily. If I cannot publish a post (such as if I am on vacation at the time), I’ll be sure to post what I wrote upon my return.
I am excited to see how my writing develops in the coming months and years. As always, I would greatly appreciate any feedback you have for me! I’ll be back tomorrow.
