Great Ideas, Wrong Time
One of my seemingly constant struggles is timing when I believe I have great ideas. Don’t get me wrong; I have no misconceptions that these ideas might not be better than others or that my ideas might be significant only to me. However, the biggest issue I consistently face is that when I believe I have a really good idea, I cannot take action on it right away.
I am trying to combat this by keeping better track of my ideas in My Second Brain, which I have mentioned in previous posts. While keeping ideas in my Second Brain has certainly helped, I find that it is not quite enough. I like to chase the dopamine when something strikes my fancy, but that is rarely practical. Being active on social media only exasperates this feeling since builds from other makers usually spark those ideas.
Getting ideas from other makers is not a bad thing. I love how creative people can be and believe there is an opportunity to create a positive loop of ideas and iterations on ideas with a whole community. It is finding the right balance between working on the projects I need to do now and chasing the latest hyper fixation sparked by something I’ve seen online. I’m still working on it, so please let me know your ideas.
I firmly believe that tagging and categorizing ideas in a Second Brain like Notion is essential. Getting that idea board set up in a manner conducive to bringing the right idea back to me at the right time has proven more tricky than I anticipated. Once I believe the setup works, I will share the template so others can try it. Making the template available to others will also let other people’s ideas in, and that feedback will help everyone.
